Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) has backed the German Trade Union Federation’s (DGB) proposal to introduce mandatory company pensions for all employees. The SPD leader said on ARD television that such a requirement could help stabilize the pension system.
Klingbeil is both finance minister and SPD chairman. With his statement, he positions himself clearly in the current pension debate. The DGB had proposed mandatory company pensions as part of a comprehensive pension reform.
