Nithya Raman has cleared the first hurdle on her path to becoming mayor of Los Angeles. As The Guardian reports, the Democrat narrowly defeated her Republican challenger Spencer Pratt in the primary and advanced to the runoff. Raman said she was “incredibly honored” by the result.

In her first reaction after the victory, Raman pledged to work for a healthier, safer, and more joyful Los Angeles. The 38-year-old city council member is considered a progressive voice and has advocated for affordable housing and police reform. Her opponent Pratt, a businessman, ran a law-and-order campaign.

While the Los Angeles mayoral race heats up, another politician made headlines on the sidelines of the NBA Finals. US Donald Trump was shown on the video screens at Madison Square Garden before Game 3 of the finals series between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. The crowd greeted the image with loud boos. Trump held a hand in salute for about eight seconds, smiling. Only when the cameras switched to the Knicks players did the boos turn into cheers.

EuroPulse reported on June 6 about the NBA Finals, in which the Knicks won a dramatic game in San Antonio and Trump was present at the victory celebration (https://europulse.today/nba-finals-knicks-gewinnen-drama-in-san-antonio-trump-bei-fe/).
