Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to the Academy in Blackley on Tuesday morning. The school was locked down, with students confined to their classrooms. A GMP spokesperson confirmed that a female student was arrested at the scene.

The victims are two 14-year-old students – a boy and a girl – and a 27-year-old male staff member. Police said the injuries were caused by a bladed weapon but are not life-threatening. The arrested student is being questioned on suspicion of Section 18 assault (grievous bodily harm with intent). Police are not looking for any other suspects.

Within an hour of the attack, a large crowd of students, parents, and bystanders gathered outside the school. Many parents said they had not been informed by the school and had to piece together what happened from text messages and calls from their children. The school will remain closed for the rest of the day.
