The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, was struck by massive Russian airstrikes on May 14, resulting in at least 24 fatalities. This was reported by the Ukrainian emergency services via Telegram. Rescue teams searched for victims in the rubble of a destroyed residential building in the Darnytskyi district for hours before the search operations were concluded.

Among the dead are three children, and 48 other people were injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Moscow launched over 675 attack drones and fired 56 missiles. Other cities in southern and eastern Ukraine were also affected.

Zelensky commented on the platform X, emphasizing that the timing of the attacks was no coincidence, as the US President was visiting China. He also called for tougher sanctions against Russia to increase pressure on the country.

A Kh-101 cruise missile, manufactured in the second quarter of this year, hit a building in Kyiv. This indicates that Russia continues to acquire necessary components and circumvent international sanctions. Zelensky had previously hoped that US Donald Trump could influence China to end its support for Russia’s invasion.

The massive attacks are intended to increase pressure on Ukraine to accept Russia’s conditions for peace negotiations.
