An intoxicated man drove a car with twelve occupants on Thursday evening in Fischbach, Rhineland-Palatinate. According to the police in Idar-Oberstein, the occupants were found in a dangerous condition during a check. They were lying across the back seat and sitting in the trunk without any safety restraints.
The driver had a blood alcohol level of 1.1 per mille. The police prohibited him from continuing to drive and initiated criminal proceedings. Officers emphasized the significant dangers posed by driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless behavior on the road.
“People in the trunk or unsecured in a vehicle have little chance of survival in sudden braking maneuvers or collisions,” warned the police. On Ascension Day, which is also celebrated as Father’s Day in Germany, there are approximately three times as many alcohol-related accidents as on average days, according to the Federal Statistical Office.
The police urge all road users to ensure the safety of all occupants and to act responsibly.
