The strikes, which the US Central Command said were carried out in self-defense, targeted missile launch bases in southern Iran and boats that were laying naval mines. The action came on the same day a high-ranking Iranian delegation arrived in Doha, Qatar, for peace talks.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking during a visit to India, said he expected a deal with Iran to take “a few days.” He said negotiators were discussing the exact wording of a framework document. “The president has expressed his desire to reach a conclusion. He will either make a good deal or no deal at all,” Rubio said. He also stressed that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open — “one way or another.”

Donald Trump had earlier said that enriched uranium held by Iran could be destroyed inside the country under the supervision of an international nuclear agency. He also said any deal should require certain regional states to sign the Abraham Accords. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to “crush” Hezbollah in Lebanon.

EuroPulse reported on May 24, 2026, that Trump expected a timely agreement with Iran and that a two-phase deal was in sight (https://europulse.today/trump-erwartet-zeitnahe-einigung-mit-iran/).
