The closed Bonn North Bridge on the A565 is, for Al-Wazir, a symbol of misguided transport policy. The chair of the Bundestag’s transport committee told Deutschlandfunk that the federal government places too much emphasis on building new highways. As a result, both money and planning capacity are lacking for the renovation of existing structures.

Al-Wazir (Alliance 90/The Greens) criticized that funds for maintaining infrastructure are insufficient. The consequences are closures like that of the North Bridge, which massively disrupt traffic in the region. The politician called for a reallocation of resources in favor of repair and modernization.
