At least three explosions shook the southern suburbs of Beirut on Sunday, the Guardian reported, citing eyewitnesses. The Israeli military said on X that it was striking Hezbollah infrastructure in the Lebanese capital, without providing evidence. In a joint statement, Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel Katz said the army had hit “terrorist” headquarters in southern Beirut, apparently in retaliation for Hezbollah fire on northern Israel.

Lebanon’s state-run News Agency (NNA) reported that the strikes hit two apartments in two buildings. There were no immediate official reports of casualties. This is at least the third Israeli attack on southern Beirut since the ceasefire on April 17.

The renewed strikes could jeopardize ongoing US peace talks with Iran. Tehran has demanded an end to Israeli attacks on Lebanon as a condition for a deal. US Donald Trump told News he would not release Iranian assets or lift sanctions until a peace agreement is reached. He said he wants to keep US troops in the Middle East until the mission is “complete” and to seize and destroy Iran’s highly enriched uranium.
