Washington. US Donald Trump on Friday announced an impending framework agreement with Iran to end the war. “We have reached a great deal in the war with Iran,” Trump said at the White House. The relevant documents could be signed in Europe as early as this weekend.
Iran’s Fars news agency, which is close to the Revolutionary Guards, immediately contradicted the claim, reporting that no final text exists yet. Senior Iranian politicians initially did not comment on Trump’s statements, which he has made several times in the past.
Trump stressed that Iran’s head of state, Mojtaba Khamenei, had already agreed to the framework agreement. It includes, among other things, the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the end of the US naval blockade against Iranian ports. However, the blockade will remain in place until a final agreement is reached, Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
The US had responded to Iran’s effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier, Trump had canceled announced strikes on Iran and said that talks had reached the highest level of Iranian leadership. Details of the talks were not disclosed.
The Israeli government received assurances from Washington that Israel’s security interests would be taken into account in a subsequent final agreement. Trump promised that a deal would include the removal of enriched uranium and the dismantling of uranium enrichment facilities.
