Acting Governor of Russia’s Bryansk region, Jehor Kowaltschuk, said on Wednesday that a Ukrainian drone had attacked a bus carrying a Belarusian youth football team. The team from Homel was reportedly on its way to a holiday in Gelendzhik. According to Kowaltschuk, a Belarusian woman accompanying the group was killed, and six people were wounded, including four children.

Spokesperson of the Ukrainian General Staff, Andrij Kowaljow, officially denied the accusations. “During the specified period, the defense forces of Ukraine did not use unmanned aerial vehicles against targets in the Bryansk region,” he said. Russia is increasingly resorting to information manipulation and fabricating accusations because it is failing to achieve its war goals and suffering heavy losses.

The Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case for a “terrorist act.” The Kremlin and the Belarusian Foreign Ministry also described the incident as a terrorist act. In contrast, the head of the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation, Andrij Kowalenko, called it a coordinated information operation by Russia to turn Belarusian public opinion against Ukraine.
