Myanmar military killed over 700 civilians in six months

A UN report cited by the BBC says Myanmar's military killed more than 700 civilians between August 2025 and January 2026, including 224 women and 153 children. Airstrikes were the main cause of death.

According to a UN report cited by the BBC, Myanmar's military killed more than 700 civilians between August 2025 and January 2026. Among the victims are 224 women and 153 children.

The Sagaing region recorded the highest toll with 191 civilian deaths. In October 2025, an attack on Chaung-U killed 23 people near a school during a candlelight vigil. In December 2025, a military aircraft bombed a tea shop in Tabayin, killing at least 19 people who were watching a football match.
