The Bundestag is set to vote on the savings package by Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU) on the last sitting day before the summer break. The opposition criticizes the procedure as rushed. Green MP Janosch Dahmen said they had experienced a “chaotic legislative process.” A thorough review is impossible in such a short time. The coalition rejected a renewed hearing of experts.
Left Party health politician Ates Gürpinar also filed a complaint in Karlsruhe. “This is not just any law, but the most massive cut in healthcare provision in decades,” he stressed. He sees an “unjustified haste in the legislative process.” According to him, the amendment proposals shift billions in funds.
SPD parliamentary manager Dirk Wiese remained calm. The expert hearing took place two weeks ago, and the amendments had essentially already been discussed. Constitutional law expert Sophie Schönberg, however, considers the lawsuits well-founded. The Federal Constitutional Court intends to decide on the emergency motions before Friday’s vote.
