Russia launched ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities overnight. In Zaporizhzhia, at least six people were killed, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to Ukrainian reports, Russia again attacked Kyiv and other major cities with ballistic missiles overnight into Tuesday. At least six people were killed and 19 others injured in the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote in a post on X. He added that Russia had used North Korean ballistic missiles in the attack. In the capital Kyiv, one injured person was initially reported. Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram: “Explosions in the capital. The city is under fire. Stay in shelters.”

The news portal Kyiv Independent reported that Russia had launched another attack with ballistic missiles. According to the report, the Ukrainian air force warned that Russian missiles were targeting Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv.

Because Ukrainian forces lack ammunition for missile defense after four and a half years of war, Russia has intensified its ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv and other cities. The US-made Patriot systems are considered the most effective defense against ballistic missiles, which are particularly difficult to intercept due to their high speed. The Ukrainian army has several of them, but not enough interceptor missiles.

In Kyiv, there is growing concern that unhindered missile attacks could severely damage the country’s infrastructure again this coming winter and bring even greater hardship to the people of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukraine set fire to at least one oil refinery and warehouses of the country’s largest online retailer Wildberries in new massive drone attacks deep inside Russian territory. In the Voronezh region, tens of thousands of square meters of warehouse space burned, as Governor Alexander Gusev announced. A 49-year-old man was fatally injured in the attack, and two others were injured, he said.

The facilities of the logistics center had been evacuated, Wildberries announced in the morning. According to the governor, there had been an attack overnight, and Russian air defense shot down 15 drones. He did not say how many drones hit their targets. With its attacks on Wildberries, Ukraine aims to disrupt Russia’s military supplies.

In Orsk in the Orenburg region near the border with Kazakhstan, an oil refinery caught fire after a drone attack, according to reports on social media. Governor Yevgeny Solntsev only confirmed that a fire had broken out at an industrial facility after the attack. He did not say it was a refinery. There were no injuries, according to him. There was initially no comment from the Ukrainian side on the attacks.

Another fire at an oil refinery was reported by the Russian state agency Tass from Komsomolsk-on-Amur in the far east of the country. The cause of the fire or further details were not initially given.
