The German Bundestag has decided to erect a memorial for the Polish victims of World War II and the German occupation of Poland from 1939 to 1945. The memorial is to be built in central Berlin, as Minister of State for Culture and Media Wolfram Weimer announced on the anniversary of the German attack on Poland on September 1, 1939.
A design competition for the memorial is currently underway. In December 2026, a jury will deliberate on a winning design, after which construction is to begin. The erection is planned from 2027.
