In a video address from Kyiv, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone said the visit fulfilled a promise he made to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapaty, during their last conversation in August. The committee came in full strength to get the latest assessment of the situation on the front line first-hand and to work out how support for Ukraine can be expanded further.

32 member states represented

According to Ukrinform, the delegation included military representatives from 32 member states of the alliance. The visit follows the trip by the North Atlantic Council to the Ukrainian capital in June. Cavo Dragone stressed that, in the face of Russia’s continued aggression against Ukraine and reckless hybrid activities in NATO states, the alliance stands unwaveringly by Ukraine’s side.

The admiral addressed directly those who want to undermine support through sabotage, cyberattacks and violations of airspace in NATO states: they are failing. NATO’s support for Ukraine keeps growing, and unity is stronger than ever. Russia bears full responsibility for this dangerous and unacceptable behaviour. Delegation members also paid tribute to all Ukrainian soldiers, especially those who lost their lives or were wounded.

According to Ukrinform, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had previously said that allies must be prepared for further hostile actions by Russia against the alliance. The response must be increased support for Ukraine.
