Ukraine has received another 1.2 billion euros from the European Union for defense purposes, according to Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky. Total aid under the program now stands at nearly 13 billion euros.

The latest transfer follows a payment of 2.9 billion euros made earlier this month under the Ukraine Facility. To unlock that money, Kyiv met ten reform benchmarks, including in banking, energy, agriculture and transport. Three of those targets were reached ahead of schedule.

Koretsky said the funds should go toward the country’s most urgent defense needs. “Given the difficult financial situation, these funds are crucial for the state’s resilience,” Kyivpost quoted him as saying in a post on Telegram. The need for additional financing remains “critical.”

Further EU payments are tied to conditions Kyiv has not yet met. Several of them require votes in parliament, where the relevant bills have been stuck since November 2025. Seven reform laws have already passed their first reading, Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko said in a post on LinkedIn.

In a joint statement, the European Commission and Ukraine said they had found funds to cover Ukraine’s budget and defense needs for 2026. They did not name a specific sum. According to Marchenko, Ukraine needs 52.6 billion dollars in external budget support for 2027, of which only around 20 billion dollars has been pledged so far.
