A23: Full closure between Hamburg-Eidelstedt and Pinneberg until the end of May

The A23 will be fully closed from today until May 25 between Hamburg-Eidelstedt and Pinneberg-Süd heading north. The reason is the renovation of the open-pore asphalt, as announced by the Autobahn GmbH.

According to the Autobahn GmbH, the work will begin this evening at 8 PM. Initially, the Halstenbek/Krupunder and Halstenbek/Rellingen interchanges heading north will be renovated and closed. This closure will last until May 25 at 5 AM. Concurrently, from May 21 at 7 PM until May 25 at 5 AM, the section between Hamburg-Eidelstedt and Pinneberg-Süd will be fully closed, including the Hamburg-Eidelstedt interchange heading north.

The Autobahn GmbH recommends a detour: road users should exit at Hamburg-Eidelstedt and follow the B4 heading north. The route leads via Pinneberger Straße and Hauptstraße to the Pinneberg-Mitte interchange, where the A23 can be re-entered. Warnings about the closure are already being issued on the A7, directing traffic to the B430, where all long-distance destinations are signposted.

For trips to Wedel, Pinneberg, and Halstenbek (all in the Pinneberg district), the Autobahn GmbH advises detouring through the B431 in the Othmarschen area. The work is expected to take place around the clock to minimize the duration of the closure. The renovation of the open-pore asphalt in the Halstenbek area is necessary to ensure road safety.

The full closure affects one of the most important commuter highways in the north. In the past, there have been accidents and traffic jams on the A23, as reported by Hamburger Morgenpost and FOCUS. Recently, a drowsy driving accident occurred near Pinneberg, where a car crashed into the guardrail, as well as a hazardous material incident that prompted a response from Pinneberg.
