Cem Özdemir, the designated Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, presented his new cabinet on Tuesday. The ministerial lineup includes numerous familiar faces from the previous government under Kretschmann. Özdemir is essentially relying on proven personnel, while the Greens (Alliance 90/The Greens) have ceded the Ministries of Transport and Education to the CDU, retaining the Ministry of Construction.
Former Minister Theresa Schopper will take over the Ministry of Construction, despite her initial intention to exit politics. Özdemir emphasized the importance of stability within the coalition during the presentation of his ministers and state secretaries, highlighting the role of the Ministry of Science in developing future industries such as artificial intelligence.
Danyal Bayaz remains the Minister of Finance and is a close confidant of Özdemir. He will be supported by Andrea Lindlohr, who previously served as State Secretary in the Ministry of Construction. Lindlohr will focus particularly on state construction administration and coordinate with the Environmental State Secretary André Baumann regarding the Realos wing of the Greens.
The Ministry of the Environment will continue to be led by Thekla Walker, while Oliver Hildenbrand will serve as the new Minister of Health and Social Affairs. Hildenbrand is part of the party's left wing and will be supported by Petra Krebs as State Secretary. The Ministry of Science and Art will remain under the leadership of Petra Olschowski, who is considered an asset and enjoys Özdemir's trust.
In the State Chancellery, known as the State Ministry in Baden-Württemberg, Jörg Krauss will remain as head of the office. Florian Haßler, who was already State Secretary, will be responsible for political coordination and international affairs. Özdemir announced that he would appoint a volunteer state council at a later date, possibly for reducing bureaucracy.
