The AfD plans to replace up to 200 civil servants in Saxony-Anhalt if it takes over the government. Sven Schulze (CDU) called these plans “political purges” and expressed concern about the impact on trust in the democratic state.

Schulze said the wording and the idea of political purges reflect an understanding of the state that he firmly rejects. He emphasized that such concerns are causing anxiety among civil servants, who have already approached him.

AfD lead candidate Ulrich Siegmund told the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung” that a realistic number is 150 to 200 positions that would be filled anew in the event of an election victory. This affects not only ministerial posts but also leadership positions in ministries and other authorities.

Schulze also criticized considerations within the federal CDU about minority governments, highlighting the difference between running a state chancellery and theoretical discussions about forms of government.
