As reported by Zeit, the Bundestag has approved a legislative change to digitize the certificate of good conduct. In the future, the document can also be created as a PDF, instead of on special green paper as before. A majority of MPs voted in favor of the change.

The certificate of good conduct is required for many professional activities, such as in childcare or the security sector. Until now, it had to be printed on special security paper and sent by mail. With digitization, this step is eliminated – the PDF file can be downloaded directly or forwarded to employers.

The exact technical details of implementation and the timeline for introduction are not yet known. The decision is part of the federal government’s efforts to simplify and accelerate administrative processes.
