A 27-year-old woman has been killed in a Russian attack on an apartment building in Zaporizhzhia.
The news agency Ukrinform reports this, citing the Telegram channel of Mykhailo Semikin, acting head of the military regional administration of Zaporizhzhia.
“A residential building in Zaporizhzhia was hit. Unfortunately, a 27-year-old woman was killed in the enemy attack,” Semikin’s statement says. Information on further casualties is currently being clarified, according to Ukrinform.
Only the day before, according to the agency, the city had been hit by multiple rocket attacks. Residential buildings were damaged and five people were injured.
The attacks on Zaporizhzhia continue a series of severe strikes in Ukraine. Already on Saturday, 10 October, the BBC had reported on an attack with five glide bombs on the city in which at least 20 people were killed, including four children; at least 32 others were injured. The then acting mayor Regina Harchenko spoke of a hit on the ground floor, whose floors above had collapsed. Zaporizhzhia lies less than 16 kilometres from the front line.
According to the United Nations, which the BBC cites, the number of civilian casualties in Ukraine rose by 55 per cent in the first eight months of this year.
