From 1 January 2027 the Deutschlandticket will cost €66.80 a month instead of €63. The federal-state Koordinierungsrat set the price on 30 September 2026, ZDFheute reports, citing dpa and AFP. For subscribers that is €3.80 more a month, or €801.60 a year instead of €756.
Since launching in May 2023 at €49, the ticket has become about a third more expensive: €58 in early 2025, €63 in early 2026, now €66.80. The VDV transport association says around 14.5 million people use it. It covers local and regional transport across Germany – buses, U-Bahn, S-Bahn, regional trains – but not ICE, IC or EC services.
| Ticket | Price from 1 Jan 2027 |
|---|---|
| Deutschlandticket (standard) | €66.80 (was €63.00) |
| Jobticket with 5% base discount | €63.46 |
| Deutschland-Semesterticket (students) | €40.08 |
Why €66.80 and not €66.40?
For the first time the price was calculated rather than haggled over. Transport ministers agreed a cost index in March 2026; according to Deutsche Umwelthilfe it weights staff costs (55%), energy (20%) and other goods (25%). Federal and state governments still contribute a fixed €3bn a year combined, so rising costs fall on passengers.
In August the environmental group Deutsche Umwelthilfe forecast €66.40, mainly because of higher diesel prices. The actual price is 40 cent higher. The reports we reviewed do not explain the gap; different input data or rounding are possible. Our assessment: a formula turns annual rises into routine. While subsidies stay frozen and wages and energy keep climbing, the ticket will probably keep getting dearer – by how much depends on inflation and pay deals.
Christian Bernreiter (CSU), chair of the transport ministers’ conference, said in December 2025: “Das Deutschlandticket ist auch mit 63 Euro noch ein attraktives Angebot für Millionen Fahrgäste” – roughly, still an attractive offer at €63. The VDV calls the rise painful for some riders, according to ZDFheute, but welcomes the early certainty.
What you can do now
According to Deutsche Bahn, you can cancel “bis zum 10. eines Monats zum Monatsende” – by the 10th for the end of that month – via the subscription portal or DB Navigator. To avoid the new price, cancel by 10 December and the ticket ends on 31 December. Last year Bahn asked subscribers to agree to the new price explicitly, and subscriptions of those who did not ended at year-end. Whether the same applies this time is unclear, so watch for emails from your provider.
Employees, apprentices and students have the best chance of saving. Employers who contribute at least 25% get an extra 5% federal discount, ADAC says; by our calculation that brings the ticket down to as little as €46.76. Bavaria offers a €43 Ermäßigungsticket for apprentices, volunteers and students (2027 price not yet announced). Social tickets for benefit recipients exist in some states, such as Hamburg, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia; whether they rise in 2027 is not yet known. If subsidies stay unchanged, riders absorb the full increase themselves.
