In Dortmund, a major police operation took place on Tuesday. A man fired at an officer and then fled into his apartment, where he barricaded himself with his three children. Special forces (SEK) were alerted and surrounded the building.
For hours, there was no all-clear; the emergency services tried to make contact with the man. Eventually, the shooter surrendered to the police. The children were brought out of the apartment unharmed, according to the Dortmund police. The injured officer received medical treatment.
The motives behind the act were initially unclear. Investigations are ongoing.
