As the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK) reports, the Ethnological Museum Berlin invites you to the Ethnographic Film Days "Slices of Life" (SoL) on May 18 and 19, 2026. This event will take place at the Dahlem Research Campus (FCD) and provides a platform for the exchange of ethnographic films. Screenings of eight film works from four different continents are planned, as well as three films that present current cooperation projects of the Ethnological Museum.

The film days will be held in the presence of filmmakers from various countries, including Nepal, Congo, Sudan, Fiji/USA, Grenada/Denmark, Brazil/Germany, and Nigeria/United Kingdom. This international participation underscores the diversity of perspectives expressed in the films shown. The films will not only be screened but also discussed in roundtable discussions, providing participants with the opportunity to gain deeper insights into the cultural and social themes of the respective works.

The Ethnographic Film Days "Slices of Life" aim to promote understanding of ethnographic film art and highlight the relevance of such films in today's society. Ethnographic films are an important medium for depicting cultural practices, ways of life, and social dynamics. They not only provide a glimpse into other cultures but also encourage reflection on one's own culture.

The Ethnological Museum Berlin has established itself as a significant institution engaged in the research and presentation of ethnological topics. The collaboration with the German International Ethnographic Film Festival (GIEFF e.V.) allows for the expansion of the reach and impact of ethnographic films, reaching a broader audience.

The event is expected to attract a wide range of interested parties, including students, scholars, filmmakers, and the general public. The film days offer an opportunity to engage with the challenges and opportunities that ethnographic films present in today's globalized world.

Overall, the "Slices of Life" event promises to be a rewarding experience for all participants interested in ethnographic film art and its societal significance. The combination of film screenings and discussions will contribute to a deeper understanding of the themes presented and foster dialogue between cultures.
