EU Economic Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis has rejected any softening of EU sanctions against Russia. The European Union (EU) has simultaneously lowered its growth forecast for 2026 and warned of rising inflation, according to Euronews.
While the EU holds to its tough stance, the United States and the United Kingdom are easing their sanctions against Russia. The EU is also under pressure from the energy crisis resulting from the Iran war, which is driving up energy prices.
Dombrovskis emphasized that the sanctions are a central tool to end Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. An easing is currently out of the question, even if the economic consequences for Europe are tangible.
