Chancellor and CDU leader Friedrich Merz announced the election at a press conference. Hoppermann is serving provisionally until the next party congress confirms her. Merz praised the 44-year-old as a “strong voice for the party” and highlighted her experience in both urban and rural areas.
Hoppermann herself said the election was a great honor. “For me, politics is first and foremost a service – a service to the country and to the people,” she said. The business graduate has been a member of the Bundestag for the Hamburg-Wandsbek constituency since 2021 and previously served as the CDU’s national treasurer.
Hamburg CDU state chairman Dennis Thering congratulated her, emphasizing her “clarity, reliability, and great expertise.” Hoppermann stands for a modern and high-performing CDU. State elections in Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Berlin are scheduled for September, which will shape her work.
