According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), a sponsor solution has been found for the Ketteler Hospital in Offenbach as part of its self-administered insolvency proceedings. The hospital said the German Red Cross district association Offenbach will assume sponsorship. An investor agreement has already been signed; its implementation remains subject to creditor approval.

The FAZ reports that the takeover of sponsorship secures the jobs of the more than 900 employees and the continued operation of the hospital’s medical specialist departments. The obstetrics unit is excluded from this: as previously announced, that department will close on 30 June of this year. Patient care will continue without interruption, the hospital said.

Doru Somesan, managing director of the DRK district association Offenbach, told the FAZ that the Ketteler Hospital is an important part of health care in Offenbach and the surrounding region. Integrated into the existing network of emergency services, nursing facilities and other offerings, the takeover contributes to maintaining high-quality local medical services. Dietmar Eine, restructuring managing director of the Ketteler Hospital, added that the solution provides the hospital with a viable future perspective.

The hospital initiated judicial self-administered insolvency proceedings in the autumn of last year. According to the report, restructuring manager Eine is supported by experts from Pluta Rechtsanwalts GmbH. The insolvency plan is already being coordinated and is expected to be finalized in the near future.

The DRK district association Offenbach’s stated aim, according to the FAZ, is to secure the hospital site for the long term, to continue medical services reliably and to integrate the hospital into a regional care network. The transfer of sponsorship is to be carried out during this year, provided the necessary creditor approvals are granted.
