Misbah Khan, deputy leader of the Green Party parliamentary group, has warned the German government against cutting parental allowance. Speaking on Deutschlandfunk, Khan said families are being increasingly burdened. So far, hardly any government initiative has brought noticeable relief, she added.
Khan emphasized that parental allowance is an important support for young families. Especially in times of high inflation and rising living costs, the state must not make savings here. The Green Party politician called on the coalition to reconsider its budget plans.
The German government is under pressure to find savings. Whether the cuts to parental allowance will actually happen remains to be seen. The debate is expected in the coming weeks.
