Iranian Massud Peseschkian has described the recently reached framework agreement with the United States as a diplomatic victory for his country. According to Deutschlandfunk, he said this opportunity must not be allowed to slip away. The agreement includes, among other things, an end to hostilities between the US and Iran.
Peseschkian, who has been in office since July 2024, is considered a moderate politician who seeks to ease relations with the West. The framework agreement was reached after months of indirect negotiations. It includes initial steps toward de-escalation, while talks on central disputes such as Iran’s nuclear program are still to be held.
The US and Iran have been hostile to each other since the Islamic Revolution of 1979. The authoritarian state in the Middle East has enshrined enmity toward Israel and the US in its state ideology. The agreement could change regional dynamics but remains fragile, as both sides harbor deep mistrust.
