The eastern Ukrainian metropolis of Kharkiv is responding to ongoing Russian attacks by building underground educational facilities. Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated at the GLOBSEC Forum that the city is currently constructing its first underground kindergarten. In addition, ten underground schools are planned to provide children with regular lessons despite the war.
Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has severely damaged civilian infrastructure in Kharkiv. According to Terekhov, the threat from the air has fundamentally changed children’s education. He called on the international community to continue supporting Ukraine.
