Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov threatened in a TV interview to sharply intensify methods to destroy everything that feeds Kyiv’s war machine from the West. He accused Brussels of taking a “very dangerous path” and criticized European elites for their pride and inflated self-confidence. The remarks were distributed by the Russian news agency Tass.
The German government reacted calmly to the threats. A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said on Monday in Berlin that such statements would not intimidate Germany or weaken its support for Ukraine. The threats were nothing new.
Lavrov’s comments come at a time when a drone loaded with explosives was discovered in the security area of Leipzig/Halle airport. A spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Defence said there was a “constant process” to ensure the “best possible security” for military support to Ukraine. The German government no longer provides information on “individual deliveries, schedules, margins, and quantities” to avoid raising sensitivities.
