From Friday 16 October, the “Großes Kinderkino” returns to Gasteig HP8 in Munich: Fridays at 3 pm, and almost every day during the Bavarian autumn holidays (2–6 November). Screenings take place at the Munich City Library in HP8 (Hans-Preißinger-Straße 8, venue “Projektor”, Halle E). A child’s ticket costs €3, adults pay €4, and after-school care groups (Hort) €2 per person.
The organisers are the Münchner Stadtbibliothek and the association Kinderkino München e. V.; tickets are sold through MünchenTicket. Published dates run to 18 December. Programme up to the end of the holidays, all at 3 pm:
- Fri 16 Oct: “Ente gut!” (ages 8+, 91 minutes)
- Fri 23 Oct: “Der Mondmann” (7+)
- Fri 30 Oct: “Mission Ulja Funk” (9+)
- Sat 31 Oct: “Tafiti – Ab durch die Wüste” (6+)
- Sun 1 Nov: “Das grüne Wunder – Unser Wald” (7+)
- Mon 2 Nov: “Der kleine Prinz” (8+)
- Tue 3 Nov: “Kurzfilme zum Mitmachen” (5+)
- Wed 4 Nov: “Wo die wilden Kerle wohnen” (8+)
- Thu 5 Nov: “Lotta zieht um” (5+)
- Fri 6 Nov: “Fritzi – Eine Wendewundergeschichte” (9+)
For younger children, the short films on 3 November and “Lotta zieht um” are the safest picks; both are rated for ages five and up. This Friday’s “Ente gut!” follows two sisters who have to cope alone for a while while their mother visits their sick grandmother. The 2016 film carries the German “Besonders wertvoll” (especially valuable) rating, and in our view it may resonate with children who have lived through a move or a separation. That is our own assessment, not the organisers’.
For school-age children there is also a silhouette animation workshop starting on 2 November (ages 8+, 9 am to 3 pm) at forum 2, Nadistraße 3; according to Kinderkino München, it runs over four days. The price is shown on the booking page but not in the organisers’ announcements.
Two things to know in advance. The organisers do not state a language version or subtitles, and the series is clearly aimed at German-speaking children, so check whether your child will follow the film. And availability for each date is only visible when you book through MünchenTicket; for the holiday screenings, it is worth booking early.
