A humpback whale has been stranded and motionless in a shallow bay near the island of Poel since Tuesday, raising fears that it may not survive much longer. Experts are sounding alarms about the whale's critical condition, with no certainty on how long it can endure. Tom Bär from the German Maritime Museum noted that the whale's exact health status remains unclear, as an internal examination is not feasible. It may be suffering from an infection or organ damage.

In recent days, rescue teams have made every effort to assist the whale, with firefighters spraying it with water to prevent dehydration. However, the situation appears increasingly dire.

Authorities are preparing for the possibility that the whale may be severely injured or even dead, which would necessitate plans for the recovery of its carcass. The remains would then be sent to Stralsund for examination, and its skeleton offered to the University of Rostock.

Officials have already indicated that the whale's chances of rescue are dwindling. Expert Lehmann emphasized the need for realism, stating, "We are now at a point where I must say: it is no longer feasible—there is nothing good left to be done for this whale."

The news of the stranded whale has resonated with many, prompting some to demonstrate and advocate for its rescue, while experts describe the situation as tragic and unavoidable.

The next few days will be critical in determining the whale's fate. Authorities face pressure to find a humane solution should the animal pass away, highlighting not only the issue of animal welfare but also confronting the public with the harsh realities of life and death in nature.
