Russia has recalled its ambassador to Armenia for consultations. According to Deutsche Welle, the recall follows a warning from Vladimir Putin to Armenia against pursuing EU membership. Putin reportedly alluded to the ‘Ukrainian scenario’ in his warning.
Armenia has traditionally maintained close ties with Moscow but has increasingly pivoted toward the West in recent years. Tensions between Yerevan and Moscow have escalated recently, partly due to Russia’s security guarantees in the conflict with Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh.
