The Chernihiv regional police reported the rising toll on Facebook. By 11:30 a.m., the number of dead stood at nine. Rescue workers recovered the bodies of three children from the rubble of a high-rise building.
Interior Minister Iwan Wyhowskyj said on Telegram that a policewoman was injured in the Russian attack on Pryluky. Her husband, who had until recently served at the front as a police officer, and her mother were killed. Wyhowskyj expressed his condolences to the relatives.
The minister also said that rescue and recovery operations were underway at eight locations, including in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as in the Kirovohrad, Chernihiv and Poltava regions. Wyhowskyj stressed that Russia had attacked civilians who were sleeping in their homes. Residential buildings, a warehouse with sanitary supplies, a garage cooperative and shops were hit. There was no military justification whatsoever for shelling a cemetery in the capital.
Back on October 7, Russian troops had already hit a high-rise building in Pryluky, according to Ukrinform. Earlier reports put the toll at five dead and 25 injured.
