The accident occurred around 8 p.m. on Pryvokzalna Street in Brovary, a town east of Kyiv. A 29-year-old driver of a VAZ (Zhiguli) veered into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a bus driven by a 54-year-old man, according to the Kyiv regional police.

The old Zhiguli was carrying ten people: three adults and seven children aged two to eleven, said Mayor Ihor Sapozhko. A two-year-old girl died at the scene, and a four-year-old girl later succumbed to her injuries in hospital. Seven injured people remained in hospitals on Saturday, with their condition described as moderate to serious. One child was discharged after outpatient treatment.

Police have launched an investigation into violating traffic safety rules resulting in death. Earlier this month, after a fatal accident in Kyiv that killed four people, the Ukrainian government announced plans to toughen penalties for speeding.
