US Donald Trump confirmed on Thursday, May 15, during a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, that the war in Ukraine was a topic of discussion. Trump expressed hope for a resolution to the conflict, despite the massive Russian attacks on Ukraine that occurred shortly before the talks.
Trump stated, "We talked about it – well, it’s one that we would like to see resolved." He added, "Until last night, it looked good, but they suffered a big blow." This remark apparently referred to the recent large-scale attacks by Russia on Ukraine, which involved 56 missiles and 675 drones.
The attacks caused significant damage in the capital, Kyiv, where strikes were reported in six districts. The Darnytskyi district was particularly hard hit, with an entire segment of a residential high-rise collapsing after being struck. This attack resulted in the deaths of 24 people, including three children.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense as Trump and Xi Jinping discuss potential solutions. International reactions to the Russian attacks and the discussions between the two leaders are being closely monitored.
