President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the attack, saying: “If Ukraine burns, your Moscow will burn too.” The target was again the oil refinery in the Moscow district of Kapotnya, which had already been hit the day before. According to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, 194 Ukrainian drones were intercepted over the capital region during Thursday. How many reached the city center remained unclear.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said it had shot down a total of 555 drones — nearly 1,000 within 24 hours. State news agency TASS described the attack as the largest in two years. Independent media consider it the heaviest since the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022. Vladimir Putin did not comment on the attack during an appearance in Kazan. Russian state television reported with conspicuously restrained coverage and showed no dramatic footage of the smoke columns over Kapotnya.
