The attack took place at 6 p.m. in good visibility — an unusual tactic, as the Russian army usually conducts such advances at dusk. According to Ukrainian defenders, the Russian military command sent its soldiers into battle in a so-called “meat storm.” Despite the change in tactics, the attackers did not reach the village, which Russian propaganda claims has been under Russian control for a year and a half.
Within a few hours, Ukrainian units killed 26 Russian soldiers and wounded more than ten others. The enemy is not evacuating the wounded, the Ukrainian military said. In addition, more than 20 motorcycles and about ten quad bikes were destroyed. Ukrainian units suffered no losses, according to their own reports.
Mala Tokmatschka in the Zaporizhzhia region has been one of the most fiercely contested locations on the front for more than a year. The village has withstood Russian attacks for over 1,500 days — longer than any recorded siege in history. Military experts estimate Russian losses in the battles for the village at around 2,000 soldiers.
