During the nighttime attacks, residential buildings and oil tanks in and around Kyiv were also hit. In Pukhivka, a town in the Kyiv region, a grandfather, a grandmother, and their three-year-old grandson were killed, according to Zelensky. The child’s parents, a 15-year-old brother, and a neighbor were injured by shrapnel and the fire that broke out and were taken to hospital.
Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, reported burning oil tanks in the Obolon district on Telegram. The focus of the airstrike with rockets and combat drones was again on the suburb of Brovary with its logistics centers, according to Ukrainian reports. At least one more person was killed in an attack with six ballistic missiles on Kyiv, Zelensky said; the missiles had targeted civilian infrastructure.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that it had intercepted or shot down 135 of 151 drones that Russia had launched in the night leading into Saturday. Russia is exploiting the fact that Ukraine lacks interceptor missiles for the US-made Patriot systems. On platform X, Zelensky demanded more ammunition and sanctions to prevent the production of ballistic missiles.
In Russia, two oil refineries burned after Ukrainian drone attacks. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, one attack hit the refinery in Syzran in the Samara region, another hit the Ilski refinery in the Krasnodar region, where five people were injured. Ukraine is deliberately targeting refineries to cut off Moscow’s war funding. The Russian Defense Ministry said it had shot down 397 Ukrainian drones.
