Ukraine Requests UN Security Council Meeting After Russian Massive Attack on Kyiv

Following massive Russian airstrikes on Kyiv, Ukraine has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha calls for a strong international response against the aggressor.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has called on the international community to deliver a strong response against the aggressor after massive Russian airstrikes on the capital Kyiv. According to Spiegel, Sybiha requested on platform X an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council and a gathering of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

Four people died in and around Kyiv during the attacks on Sunday night. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported two dead and 56 injured in the capital, while Mykola Kalashnyk reported two dead and nine injured in the surrounding area. Government buildings were also damaged, including the Foreign Ministry and the Cabinet building, as well as studios of ARD and Welle.

Russia used the Oreshnik intermediate-range missile near Kyiv for the first time in the attack. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Vladimir Putin had fired the missile at Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed its use. Ukrainian air defense described a combined attack with 600 drones, 90 missiles, and cruise missiles.
