Since Tuesday afternoon, photos of Verena Bentele and Konrad Gritschneder have disappeared from the VdK Bavaria website. The chairwoman and the treasurer resigned effective June 30. The association, which has around 850,000 of the VdK’s 2.4 million members and is the strongest state branch, is now run by the remaining eight board members, who have equal standing, according to a VdK spokesperson.
By July 20, the committee will decide who will take on which tasks in the future. A new chairperson will be elected no later than next year at the state association congress, which takes place every four years. At the last congress in 2023, Verena Bentele was elected chairwoman.
Regarding her resignation, the VdK announced in mid-June: “State chairwoman Verena Bentele and state treasurer Konrad Gritschneder had ideas for a modern association structure that were not supported by the other eight board members.” The differences have now been fully resolved. Bentele has been president of VdK Germany since 2018 and will continue in that role.
