On the morning of May 14, 2026, a technical problem at Munich Airport affected the security checks in Terminal 2. According to Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), about half of the 15 security lanes were temporarily closed, leading to significant wait times.
A spokesperson for the airport confirmed that some passengers were redirected to Terminal 1 to complete their checks there. Additionally, buses were deployed to transport passengers. During the incident, one person required medical attention due to a circulatory issue.
All security lanes in Terminal 2 have since reopened, and operations have returned to normal. The exact cause of the disruption is still unclear. Terminal 2 is primarily used by Lufthansa and its partner airlines in the Star Alliance.
The security lanes were recently equipped with modern CT scanners, and the modernization was completed a year ago. These technical improvements were intended to facilitate a smoother process at security checks.
