Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed hope of hosting US-Iran peace talks soon, according to the Guardian. Sharif spoke after US Donald Trump said a deal with Tehran was “largely negotiated” and that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during a visit to New Delhi, said there was a chance the world could receive “good news in the next few hours.” He stressed that Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons and that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open to international shipping without Tehran charging fees for safe passage. Rubio described progress as “significant” but cautioned that it was not yet a final breakthrough.

Meanwhile, an Israeli strike destroyed a Lebanese civil defence facility in Nabatieh. The building collapsed, and vehicles and equipment were damaged. Senator Ted Cruz expressed “deep concern” over a potential deal with Iran and urged Trump to “hold the line.”

EuroPulse reported on May 23, 2026, that Trump said the chances of an Iran deal were “50/50” and that a decision on resuming the war would come by Sunday (https://europulse.today/trump-iran-deal-entscheidung-bis-sonntag/).
