The incident occurred at a checkpoint in close proximity to the White House, as reported by Zdfheute. The Secret Service stated on platform X that the man first shot at the officers. The security forces returned fire and hit the suspect, who was taken to a hospital and later died from his injuries.

A bystander was also hit during the exchange of gunfire. The Secret Service provided no information on his condition. The attacker’s motive remains unclear. CNN reported, citing unnamed sources, that the shooter was 21 years old. According to judicial sources, he had blocked an entrance to the White House in the summer of 2025 and was subsequently admitted to a psychiatric facility. A judge later barred him from approaching the premises.

US Donald Trump was inside the White House during the incident. He had announced he would remain in Washington over the holiday weekend to work on an agreement to end the Iran war. The White House was cordoned off extensively after the shots.
