Iranian officials told Pakistani mediators on Sunday that the planned peace agreement between Tehran and Washington has not yet been signed, the Guardian reports. Supreme Leader Motjaba Khamenei and the National Security Council must still approve the deal. One or two clauses need to be clarified to Iran’s satisfaction before the memorandum of understanding can be submitted for ratification.

US Donald Trump claimed on Saturday that a peace deal with Iran had been ‘largely negotiated’. He had previously spoken by phone with Pakistan, Gulf allies, and Israel. The agreement reportedly includes sanctions relief and the release of up to $20 billion in frozen assets. In return, Iran is to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and negotiate over its nuclear program in Pakistan within 60 days starting June 5.

Trump also spoke with Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday to reassure him about the terms of the ceasefire. Netanyahu, originally a key backer of the war that began in February, is concerned about the postponement of the nuclear issue. However, he has little choice but to accept Trump’s decision to end a domestically unpopular war that has burdened the global economy with inflation and supply shortages.

EuroPulse reported on May 24, 2026, on Trump’s announcement that a peace deal with Iran was close: USA-Iran peace deal close to agreement, says Trump.
