Union Vice-Faction Leader Stegemann has criticized the current ten-year waiting period for gifting property in the context of long-term care insurance. According to Deutschlandfunk, the Union wants adult children to be involved in their parents’ care costs earlier than before. The debate is part of discussions on care reform and the financing of long-term care insurance.

The background is the current rule under which gifts of real estate are only taken into account for calculating care contributions after ten years. Stegemann considers this period too long and advocates shortening it to relieve the solidarity community. Union’s exact plans are not yet known in detail.
