The far-right White Australia had asked the High Court of Australia to temporarily suspend its designation as a “prohibited hate group.” The group, which also seeks to register as a political party, argued that the anti-hate laws passed after the Bondi Beach terror attack would “extinguish” it. However, the country’s highest court dismissed the injunction request on Thursday, as reported by Guardian.
Chief Justice Stephen Gageler rejected the injunction application. White Australia has already announced it will challenge the constitutionality of the anti-hate laws on a fundamental level. A two-day hearing on this issue is scheduled for September. The laws were tightened in response to the Bondi Beach knife attack in April 2024, which left six people dead.
