According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, a pilot project begins on Monday at three police stations in Schweinfurt, Regensburg, and Augsburg. Patrol officers there will have the option to carry and use electroshock devices, known as Tasers.
Until now, the distance electro-impulse devices (DEIG) were used exclusively by Bavarian police special units. The pilot project aims to gather experience for a potential broader deployment in patrol duty.
