Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission reported high voter turnout in Sunday’s parliamentary election. By 5 p.m. local time, 48.92 percent of eligible voters had cast their ballots – a significant increase from 38.52 percent at the same point in the previous election. Polling stations have since closed, and vote counting is underway.
The voting process was overshadowed by security incidents. Armenia’s Interior Ministry registered dozens of criminal complaints related to the election. Fourteen people were detained for offenses including repeat voting, voter bribery, and carrying cold weapons into polling stations.
